We saw the allergist today and we have some good news. The doctor recommended to continue to give Johnny soy because he really hasn't had a reaction to it even though the blood test came back positive. He may have a low level allergy but by exposing it to him he may build up his tolerance for it. Since we already started cow's milk, we are going to do half milk and half formula until we run out of formula. This way he will still be getting the soy and hopefully his little tummy won't be such a wreck (he had diarrhea after going completely to milk). We do have to avoid all eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. I asked about how severe the allergy could be and the doctors really couldn't tell me. They said hopefully if Johnny is exposed to eggs that it isn't any worse then the reaction he had a couple of weeks ago. No idea what a reaction to peanuts or tree nuts would be. The plan is to go back in a year and do an egg challenge test. I will bake some muffins with egg and then he will eat it at the doctor's office and they will watch for a reaction. We may do a blood test or prick test then for the nuts.
So, we have allergy meds everywhere and we have a prescription for an epi-pen. Hopefully we will never need the epi-pen, but better safe than sorry. Johnny turns 11 months tomorrow, so I hope to get some pictures taken and another update on everything else.
